Is it possible to make a perfect backup copy of GTA Vice City for the PC
using CloneCD? I know there has to be some kind of protection on it but I
can't figure out what kind and how to use CloneCD to compensate for it. I
wish the game makers would just give you 2 copies. I hate it when I scratch
my originals.

Another neat thing is the CloneCD Virtual Drive. It would be nice to run
the image to where no CD is needed.

Thanks In Advance,

Putting a CD play disk in the CD player is a real pain in the arse. I can't
understand why the game manufacturers do not come up with a full
installation scenario that still protects them from pirating. The program
Alcohol 120% will clone a CD virtual drive excellently. I use it for GTA3
and GTA Vice City; so, I don't need to run the 'Play CD' (which is slower
and noisier). I would even opt for program activation instead of using a
'Play CDs'. Check your search engine for the program; there is a link to
what copy protection is used on many games at the Alcohol 120%. I paid by
credit card; I was a little dubious at first, but found the company did
answer email questions. The program is easy to run, and you get life time
upgrades. There is even a forum for support. Check out. A super
satisfied GTA player and consumer --- only because I don't have to use the
damn play disk anymore. GTA3 was the first video game I ever played, and
GTA Vice City is my second. Too bad Rockstar's "Manhunt" is getting such
poor reviews; I guess I won't purchase it when it comes out in PC version.
I hope Rockstar comes up with a GTA type game where there are no play disks,
and the game could be added to on a regular basis. Game add-ons would be
great; more missions and action additions would be a smart move by the
company. I can see where add-ons may not be practical because of the vast
graphic computing improvements yearly. We'll be playing 64 bit games soon
on PCs.

Sincerely -- Randyman

unfortunately i was disapointed to find out that clonecd 4.2.0.2 did not
compensate for the cd copy protection, but well you get that, so i had to
find the crack off the net found it at which acts as a no cd crack self
executible file to play the game, so i will always need the additional file,
but dont need the cd to run the game... also try MTA game server for multi
theft auto on a LAN

question for randyman:
so does alcohol 120% do perfect rips of vice city? or have you only ripped
the image to your hard drive and using a virtual drive mounting the image
and running? have you actually tried burning to a disc? and did it workif so
ill be getting a copy...

I do not approve of piracy; so, I never tried. I can understand a person
wanting a backup CD, but after being able to do a virtual image play CD on a
virtual CD drive, there is no need for backup CDs. I don't want to waste
one of my CDs trying. You can put 31 virtual CD players on your computer,
and you can easily delete them. I have only 2 games now. I've been working
on Vice City for a year; the only mission I can't do in the time period is
the mini helicopter dropping bombs in the building -- I skipped over it. I
love Vice City, but I'm glad I started with GTA3. I believe it will
produce a perfect copy CD and maybe DVD(not very sure about DVD). Go to the
site for the program, and check out what they say; also, see the copy
protection page- it is hard to find the link. I had to email Alcohol 12%
support for the link ( I some how lost directions to the link or could not
find it on the Alcohol web page). Alcohol's support seemed good; they
promptly answered my questions about the link and about my password to their
forum.

Sincerely --- Randyman
